Fish'n & Hunt'n Reports

August 2010

Billy & Anita Aiken head up HIS & HER ARCHERY, a full service pro shop! They’re just off of Hwy. 63 South of Walterboro about 6 miles from I-95 @ 800 Miracle Road. They’re a authorized dealer for Browning, Buck Commander & PSE & Billy does setup & tuning for all makes & models of bows & carries “Gold Tip” & “Carbon Force” arrows. It’s time to get ready for “Deer Season”, so stop by for practice & tuning of your bow. Anita works with the women & children on the skills of using a bow. His & Her Archery is now a Aothorized dealer for “Limbsaver”.

EDISTO OUTBOARD & MARINE
is located, on Hwy 17A near Cottageville, [12053 Cottageville Hwy]. The Edisto River never seems too run out of huge Flathead Catfish! Get in on the action. Some anglers use traditional methods for catching catfish & that’s most productive at night. Bow fish’n has produced some big ones as well! It’s time to get ready for hunting season & Edisto Outboard & Marine is stocked with the equipment you will need. Chris tells us they’re offering expert service at fair prices! Malcolm Murdock, a certified technician, with 32 years experience, is overseeing repairs. They will also come to you, to do repairs on boats, engines & trailers. Stop in, check out their showroom & get to know the folks at Edisto Outboard & Marine. They handle bait & tackle, hunting supplies to include boots & clothing, boat accessories & much more. They’ve got a great stock of G3 boats. "Check um’ out!"

It’s time to get ready for Deer Season! When you're ready to have that trophy Buck mounted, bring it to FREDDY'S LOWCOUNTRY TAXIDERMY. He's located off of Hwy. 63 about 5 miles from I-95 out of Walterboro. He does quality taxidermy at reasonable prices! So when you nail that big trophy buck or your first deer, bring it by Freddy’s for mounting. He’ll do it right!

Fish the bottom, in the deeper holes, with cut bait for Catfish & fish at night to get those big Flatheads in the Edisto River. In the early morning & evening, Largemouth bass fish'n is very productive. Bass can be caught on Texas rigged or floating worms and top water plugs this time of year. Fish close to structure on the bank, early and late in the day. You really need to avoid the mid day hot sun in late July & August! BLACK WATER BAIT & TACKLE @ Jellico's Landing has minnows, crickets & worms & other bait & tackle supplies. They also have tube, canoe & kayak rentals, so stop by for your bait needs, or just stop by & visit while you enjoy a cold beer or soft drink. They have a convenient access to the Edisto River, with the landing right next to the bridge, on Hwy. 17A.

It’s time to give some serious thought to setting up your favorite hunting spots with a tree or free standing tower stand, in order to have an advantage in getting that big Buck during the upcoming Deer Season. Check with your nearest CUSTOM OUTDOORS, INC. dealer for the best stands around. There is one near you. If you’re looking for a dealer or interested in becoming a dealer, give Buddy Conger a call @ 229.769.5339. "Be safe out there & good hunt’n"!

“THE BEST HOT DOGS IN THE ACE BASIN” are at WOOD BROTHERS STORE! Wood Brothers is located on Hwy 17 South, near Green Pond, SC, & has a complete inventory of those everyday needs. You can get everything from hardware & plumbing supplies, groceries, fish’n & hunt’n supplies, pots & pans, Lowcountry gifts, snacks & soft drinks. The Cobia have run their course & lots of nice fish were caught. Area fishermen are catching some big Red Drum in the flats. Look for schooling fish in the flats particularly in the deeper holes at low tide. You might try bouncing a lead-headed grub on the bottom for good results. Some nice flounder are being caught around inlets, mostly in moving water, using grubs & live shrimp. Any of a variety of grubs will work well for catching Trout but the bite has slowed. It’s time to turn our attention to deer hunting, as the season starts, in the Lowcountry on the 15th of August. “Be safe on the water & in the woods.”
