Fish'n & Hunt'n Reports

August 2010

Richard at LAKE WORLD located on Hwy 6 just across the dam in Lexington County (Lake Murray) says; try drifting or anchor and fish 45-80 feet deep in the lower part of the lake with live bait to catch the stripers. They are also picking up some pretty good stripers while trolling deep diving plugs and Road Runners on lead core line. Hit all the docks with crickets or fish 10 feet deep on bottom for the bream and shellcracker, especially around the full moon. Some nice catfish are being caught on the bottom using cut bait, worms or chicken livers. Remember they always have plenty of live blue back herring in the covered bait shed. Lake World will be having a catfishing tournament October the 9th. Call for more Info!

In Ballentine at ANGLER’S SOUTH INC. they stated that the stripers are moving back down the lake to the deeper water. They can be caught on live herring or cut bait on the points. Remember they sell live herring. Catfishing continues to be good using cut bait and worms on the bottom in the mouths of the coves. The crappie in the coves and can be caught on minnows fished around brush piles. Most crappie fishing will be done at night under bridges using lanterns. The bass should be caught in the coves around structure like brush and docks using Zoom and Fishstalker worms and lizards. The week before the full moon is a great time to get some cricket and worms and catch some bream in the shallows. Come by Angler’s South and get what you need for a day on the water!

Capt. Randy owner/operator of BLUE HERON GUIDE BOAT SERVICE reports with With the hot days of July and August, the Striped Bass will continue to move out into deeper, cooler water. Downrod fishing, that is fishing straight down with live bait, or double anchoring your boat and bottom fishing cut-bait in 50 to 80 feet of water will be the best way to catch Stripers as Summer continues. Deep water trolling crank baits or bucktails will also be effective. Stripers will sometimes come up schooling at the surface for short periods around the last week of August. Casting Topwater lures such as Zara Spooks and Creek Chubs will provide some great fun. Don’t bust the schools! Look for schools of fish on your sonar from Shull island to the dam. Use some common sense and courtesy and don’t be a cling-on. I run a family oriented business, everyone has an equal chance of catching Stripers, and I’ve got plenty of shade on my boat, plus front and side curtains when the weather turns wet. Thanks to all my customers for a great summer!!
