July 09
Capt. Randy owner/operator of
BLUE HERON GUIDE SERVICE
reports that in the months of July and August we are allowed to
keep 2 Striped Bass per person any size, while the other 3 fish
must be over 21 inches in our 5 fish per person creel limit. That
means during these months fisherman have the best opportunity
of taking home a cooler full delicious eating Lake Murray Striped
Bass!! When the waters of Lake Murray warm up into the 70s,
and even the 80s later in June and July, the Striped Bass
will continue to move out into deeper, cooler water. Down rod
fishing, that is fishing straight down with live bait with a 1
1/2 ounce sinker and a 2-3 foot leader, or double anchoring your
boat and bottom fishing cut-bait in 40 to 80 feet of water will
be the best way to catch Stripers this Summer. Use a good anchor
with a 4-5 foot chain and plenty of anchor rope so you dont
drag up the bottom and scare away the fish. Deep water trolling
crank baits or bucktails will also be effective. Look for schools
of fish on your sonar from Shull Island to the dam. Use some common
sense and courtesy and dont be a cling-on. I run a family
oriented business, everyone has an equal chance of catching Stripers,
and Ive got plenty of shade on my boat, plus front and side
curtains when the weather turns wet. Blue Heron Gift Certificates
are great gift ideas anytime.
From BUFFALO CREEK MARINA we heard the stripers have
moved back down the lake to the deeper water. Also bream are being
caught in the shallows of the coves fishing worms and crickets
under corks. Remember you can put your boat in the lake at their
fully renovated boat ramp for only $2. Also they have some rental
cabins starting at $80 a night including tax. The rental cabins
sleep four or more. They are a S.C. distributor for Harbor home
houseboats. Call us at 803-364-9353 and check out our demo, which
has all the comforts of home.
Richard at LAKE WORLD located on Hwy 6 just across the

and fish 40-70 feet deep with live bait to catch the stripers
especially at night. They are also picking up some pretty good
stripers while trolling deep diving plugs on lead core line and
on umbrella rigs. Bass are hitting best in the very early morning
or late in the day or at night, try top water or Carolina rigged
worms off points, islands and structure. Hit all the docks with
crickets before ten, and you will have a bucket full of bream,
shellcracker and perch. New licenses are available now and must
be in your possession by July 1st. Thank you for the great turn
out at the striper tournament in early June on Lake Murray. Lake
World will have a Catfish tournament July 11th and they will be
having the 1st nighttime striper tournament August 21st.
