Fish'n & Hunt'n Reports

July 08

Capt. Randy owner/operator of BLUE HERON GUIDE SERVICE stated when the waters of Lake Murray warm up into the 70’s, and even the 80’s later in June and July, the Striped Bass will continue to move out into deeper, cooler water. Down rod fishing, that is fishing straight down with live bait, or double anchoring your boat and bottom fishing cut-bait in 40 to 60 feet of water will be the best way to catch Stripers as Summer comes. Deep water trolling crank baits or bucktails will also be effective. Look for schools of fish on your sonar from Shull island to the dam. Use some common sense and courtesy and don’t be a cling-on. I run a family oriented business, everyone has an equal chance of catching Stripers, and I’ve got plenty of shade on my boat, plus front and side curtains when the weather turns wet. Blue Heron Gift Certificates are great gift ideas anytime. We wish everyone a good Independence Day Celebration! Happy July 4th!!

Try drifting or anchor and fish 40-70 feet deep with live bait to catch the stripers especially at night reports Richard at LAKE WORLD located on Hwy 6 just across the dam in Lexington County. They are also picking up some pretty good stripers while trolling deep diving plugs on lead core line and on umbrella rigs. Bass are hitting best in the very early morning or late in the day or at night, try top water or Carolina rigged worms off points, islands and structure. Hit all the docks with crickets before ten, and you will have a bucket full of bream, shellcracker and perch. New licenses are available now and must be in your possession by July 1st. Thank you for the great turn out at the striper tournament in early June on Lake Murray. Lake World will have a bream and shellcracker tournament in June 28.
