Fish'n & Hunt'n Reports

August 2010

HADDRELL’S POINT TACKLE WEST ASHLEY is located at 47 S. Windermere Blvd. This store is stocked with everything that you will need to fish in the coastal and offshore waters around Charleston. They have a great selection of apparel for the outdoorsman or outdoorswomen. Dee Oliver and his staff have all the knowledge and experience to help you with all your fishing needs, as well as giving up to date fishing reports. Haddrell’s does the best rod and reel repair around. Scott reports offshore: A strong northeaster has moved in currently that will have most of our offshore fleet staying at the hill. This bad weather should allow the fish to be able to move up the east coast with little fishing pressure, and also hopefully stack up some bait offshore of SC. Bottom fishing is still going strong, I have tried it lately (70-110ft), with good reports of vermillions, triggers, black sea bass, and gag grouper. Inshore: Still seeing a solid topwater trout bite early in the mornings, with some quality size fish being caught. Reds continue to feed heavily right now, and can be found all over our estuaries including around docks, rock piles, feeder creek mouths, on the flats, and up in the grass on high water. Tarpon continue to be hooked-up around our inlets, with Bulls and North Edisto inlet Bay. Still hearing solid reports of flounder being found caught in shallow slews around our inlets. For more of Scott’s reports, check out their website (www.haddrellspoint.com).

Bill Dukes and the crew at TRADER WORLD (843-552-5964) located in N Charleston on Cross County Rd are ready for the up coming deer season. It’s almost here. At FOLLY ROAD TACKLE SHOP, they are hearing some good catches of trout and flounder are up in the creeks and rivers and being caught with mud minnows, shrimp and grubs. Tommy suggests you fish early and late in the day because of the heat. Spot tail bass are up the waterways and rivers and on the flats at high tide. The spot tail bass can be caught on spoons, mud minnows or mullet. Around the full moon the bream fishing should be excellent in the local freshwater ponds and rivers using crickets and worms. Folly Road Tackle Shop carries a good selection of tackle and bait for whatever kind of fishing you do. They have everything (food, drinks, beer, ice and more) you will need for a day of fishing. So stop in and see them on your next fishing trip.

PERNELL’S TAXIDERMY INTERNATIONAL, (843) 688-6026, would like to make some suggestions in finding the right taxidermist for you. We recommend: visiting taxidermy shops and looking at the quality of the work. Don’t pay much attention to the fancy mounts in the showroom or the blue ribbons won from taxidermy competitions on the wall. We have won many blue ribbons throughout the years but these awards only mean that the taxidermist is capable of producing a quality mount. What you really need to see is what is going on behind closed doors. Our “closed doors” are wide open to our customers. We will be glad to show you our mounts in various stages of completion and will glad for you to compare actual photographs with the completed mounts. These reference photographs are used daily in our studio to reproduce the lifelike expressions in our mounts. What you will observe will be not animals that look “stuffed” but you will see realistic animal artistry. Stop by and take a look. We are conveniently located just three miles off I-26. Take exit 19 then head north and look for our sign or give us a call. “Choosing the right taxidermist is critical in having a mount that you can be proud of and having one that will hold up over the years”.
